Benin, Goro: Village community

December 2023
In Goro, in the Chourou region, another project was completed in cooperation with Dedras in December 2023.

A drinking water purification system was installed in the public square in the municipality of Goro. As around 1000 people need to be supplied with clean water, aqua pura used the Purion version, which enables a higher flow rate. The stable power supply is ensured by solar power as well as the sometimes unreliable power grid through the use of batteries. The organisation of water withdrawal remains a challenge for those responsible on site. The supply for daily needs can only be guaranteed if the users observe the separation of drinking and service water.

Benin, Kpassa, Region of Tschourou: 2nd project in cooperation with DEDRAS

June 2022

Since June 2022 the drinking water plant in Kpassa is in operation. The water is pumped from a borehole into a tank and stored at a height of 9m. This generates enough pressure to operate 6 water taps. The disadvantage of this solution is that bacterial contamination spreads after prolonged residence time at high temperatures. In this case, the tests carried out on site with the analysis plates supplied by aqua pura have shown that in the storage tower the water is contaminated with coli bacteria. Now the water for 3 taps is passing through a Waterflow 500 and purified. The taps for the service water, which are needed for washing, animal care or watering plants, continue to be fed directly from the tank without any changes.

the waterflow system

Under the responsibility of the project manager Michée ESSEGNON, all components of the Waterflow system were housed in an exemplary manner in a protected room in front of the drinking water taps. Up to 600 l of clean drinking water can be tapped per hour. Assuming a demand of approx. 2 l / day and person, the demand of the whole community of 411 inhabitants can be covered in max. 3 hrs.

Residents are instructed to draw off service water and drinking water separately and in different containers in order to avoid long queues in front of the drinking water taps.

Aqua pura is very pleased to have in Michée a competent and very cooperative project manager on site.

Preparations for our 3rd water project in Benin, in the community of Goro, are already underway.

Benin, Batonworou: Pilot project for clean water

May 2020 und Januar 2022

In cooperation with the organisation DEDRAS, which is active in Benin, three of several project applications were selected as pilots. After successful fundraising, the first aqua pura waterflow system was installed in the village of Batonworou. Unfortunately, it soon became apparent that the daily increase in demand for clean drinking water exceeded the capacity of the system. Significantly more people than just the village community for which the drinking system was originally planned wanted clean drinking water. Safety and hygiene could no longer be guaranteed. Despite intensive efforts by aqua pura and those responsible on site, it was not possible to find a practicable solution to reduce the long waiting times. An important prerequisite for this would have been that the population would have been willing to differentiate between drinking and domestic water. Unfortunately, this could not be enforced in this so far unique case. In addition, the very difficult infrastructure conditions on site made a second installation of our aqua pura Waterflow System impossible without the support of the local population. Together with DEDRAS, we subsequently had to decide to dismantle the existing system again, which we regretted very much. Such developments are fortunately rare, but they show that even with thorough preliminary clarifications, unexpected challenges and developments can occur and not everything always goes according to plan. The dismantled aqua pura Waterflow plant will now benefit a village community of 411 people in the district of Tschaorou in the village of Kpassa. Preparations are already underway and we hope that clean drinking water will soon be flowing in the village square in Kpassa.
